After a few more moments passed, he said in the manner of a cold statement of fact, “The Declaration is now complete.” He paused and didn’t even seem to breath as his stare went right through her.

“You have been selected as Chosen.”

That was all that was said. That was all that was ever said. All that need be said. She arose from her work and followed the foreman as she was expected to do.
